A peristaltic pump—also known as a tubing pump—is built from three essential components: a drive, a pump head, and tubing. The pump head is an important component of a peristaltic pump, consisting of two parts: the rotor and the housing. The rotor is equipped with three or more bearing-mounted rollers. When tubing is placed inside and the pump head is closed, the rollers compress the tubing against the occlusion bed.
When configuring your system, you could start by choosing the pump head, depending on the functions and flexibility you need. Flow rate or output can vary depending on the pump head. If your application requires different flow rates, pump heads that accept multiple tubing sizes are a smart choice.
- Tubing replacement – most pump heads allow quick and easy tubing changes.
- Number of channels – multiple pump heads can often be mounted on one drive, or you can use a multichannel head (up to 32 channels).
- Accuracy - Masterflex standard pump heads provide the most accurate and reproducible flow rates.
