The University of Burgos was looking for a more efficient system to perform spectroelectrochemical measurements. The collaboration with Metrohm resulted in SPELEC – spectroelectrochemistry with potentiostat, spectrometer, and the light source integrated into one system and controlled by a single software.

Creating an integrated system for spectroelectrochemical research: SPELEC

The Univesity of Burgos used to perform their spectroelectrochemical researches on separate systems: The electrochemical equipment was controlled by a dedicated software and the spectrometer was controlled by another dedicated software. The two separate signals needed to be transferred to yet a third computer to extract the relevant information from the experiment. The Chemistry Department was looking for an easier, more efficient solution for their spectroelectrochemical measurements.

They entered a close partnership with Metrohm DropSens, leading up to the creation of the first dedicated integrated instrument for spectroelectrochemistry on the market. SPELEC includes all that is needed for spectroelectrochemical measurements in one instrument: potentiostat, spectrometer, and light source controlled by a single, dedicated software.

With the old setup, the students at the University of Burgos could perform around 6 experiments in one morning. With SPELEC, they can perform up to 100 during a day.
