Thermometric complexometric titration of metals is often performed with tetrasodium EDTA. Within a basic solution buffered by ammonia/ammonium chloride, the exothermic reaction caused by formation of the metal-amine complex can be monitored to determine the endpoint. The complex formed with the amine is slightly more exothermic than that of the metal-EDTA complex. This Application Note explains the standardization of tetrasodium EDTA titrant with copper.
