Inline process monitoring of moisture content in propylene oxide

Propylene oxide (PO) is a hazardous, flammable and hygroscopic major industrial product with a yearly global production of more than 7 million tons. Due to PO's hygroscopic nature, «Real-time» analysis is necessary for high throughput PO production because this gives short response times in case of process changes or increased water content in the final product. The NIRS XDS Process Analyzer (configured for applications in ATEX areas) offers fast, reagent-free, nondestructive analysis of the water content in PO. Combination of Karl Fischer titration as a reference method with near-infrared spectroscopy enables efficient and high-quality water determination, even down to the ppm range directly in the process.
