Antarctic solar cells: Green energy from red algae

Our guest author María Fernanda Cerdá is Associate Professor at the Universidad de la República in Uruguay, where she works on organic dye solar cells. She traveled to the Antarctic to isolate new dyes from red algae for her research. Fernanda used a portable potentiostat on site to investigate the electrochemical properties of the dyes, because these determine whether a dye is suitable for solar cells. In her report, she offers insight into her research «At the end of the world».
