Determination of water in PVC stabilizers via oven method


The chemical industry is interested in determining the water content in PVC stabilizer samples because the water content of these materials affects the properties of the PVC produced. PVC stabilizers contain a variety of components, such as ketones, that cause side reactions when directly injected into a Karl Fischer
titration system. In addition, the samples are difficult to dissolve in standard Karl Fischer reagents. With the oven method, no side reactions and solubility issues occur. The water content in a PVC stabilizer samples was determined using coulometric Karl Fischer titration with the use of an oven system.
