Sensor for titration with photometric endpoint recognition

Many titrations are still often performed manually because regulations require a titration to continue until the color changes; in other words, the endpoint must not be indicated by a pH electrode or a metal electrode. Guessing shades of red, orange, purple, etc., however, has an end, as such titrations can now be automated with a new optical sensor, the Metrohm Optrode.

The Optrode features eight different wavelengths for a wide measuring range, it is 100% solvent resistant thanks to a glass shaft, and it is very easy to handle. 

The new photometric sensor can be used for many applications. Typical applications include:
  • Photometric titrations in accordance with USP and Ph. Eur. (nonaqueous)
  • Determination of carboxyl end groups (nonaqueous)
  • TAN/TBN in accordance with ASTM D974 (nonaqueous)
  • Chloride in silicone products (nonaqueous)
  • Sulfate determination
  • Fe, Al, Ca in cement
  • Water hardness (total hardness and Ca/Mg)
  • Chondroitin sulfate in accordance with USP
The Optrode can be used on both new and existing Metrohm titration systems as well as on titrators from other manufacturers.
