A sensor unaffected by solvent or difficult samples
Titration has long been the preferred method for analysis of Total Acid Number (TAN) in petroleum products. Traditional methodologies, such as ASTM D664, are not optimal for crude oil, waxy petroleum feed stocks, and other refinery fractions. Crude oil is often thick or contains precipitating aslphatenes that coat the measuring surfaces of potentiometric electrodes which leads to noisy signal and longer titrations.
Metrohm Thermometric TAN Analyzers improve TAN analysis by using a sensor that is unaffected by solvent or difficult samples.
