USP modernizes important monographs – how pharmaceutical laboratories can benefit
13-03-2018

Standard-compliant chemical analysis in accordance with pharmacopeia

The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is currently modernizing many of their monographs to bring them up to date and reflect recent innovations and technology updates. In a joint webinar, Dr. Leonel Santos, Director of Chemical Medicines at USP, and Metrohm USA will provide an overview of the USP monograph modernization program and the importance it has for pharmaceutical laboratories. Going beyond a mere overview, examples will be given how innovations and new instrumentation make analysis in the pharmaceutical laboratory more efficient, cost-effective, and safe.

The joint webinar will be presented live by American Pharmaceutical Review™ on Thursday, April 12, 11 am US Eastern Daylight Time. Extending the webinar focus beyond an overview of the USP’s modernization program, Dr. Michael Chang, Scientific Liaison Officer will present an example of a successful modernization project, where OTC products were analyzed for zinc determination (USP <591>) with selective Ion Chromatography (IC) methods.

Representing the industry, Hari Narayanan from Metrohm USA will provide a concluding overview of common chemical analysis techniques, their selectivity and sensitivity, and share example case studies of their implementation focusing on chromatographic techniques and notably ion chromatography.
