The burning of coal contaminates the atmosphere with halogens. Fluorine and chlorine are natural components of coal, whereas the bromide that is found therein is often adulterated as calcium bromide in order to reduce mercury emissions. This Application Note shows the results of combustion digestion with Combustion IC for three coal samples, each with a different bromide content.
